The Pilot Episodes of Max's Creature Commandos-REVIEWED!

Hot off the trails of both the Suicide Squad and especially Peacemaker, it looks as if James is “gunning” at the animation competition with DC Studios' latest entry Creature Commandos.
Based on an obscure comic, by JM Dematties, Commandos serves as a continuation from Gunn's previous entries where a situation in the fictional country of Polkolistan where a Meta human Circi and her followers, called the Sons of Themyscira are causing uprisings against Princess Ilana Rostovic.

Amanda Waller has been prohibited from using prisoners for dangerous missions as mandated by congress so what's the next option, send in the Inhumans! No, not those underused Marvel characters from Dis-ney but instead,  a squad comprised of monsters of lore and a robot so instead of deploying Task Force X, Waller and Rick Flag Sr. brings in Task Force M, as in Monsters!
Gunn spared no expense when dropping social and culture commentary ticking the right boxes depending on who you talk to.

"Assbackwards countries that never utilized their land's natural resources"

The animation is a return to form after a few badly drawn DCAU films and television shows during the past few years. Commandos’ art style bears more similarities to anime and that may be the smart choice as the Japanese medium has a huge cult following while the voice acting is decent when you have action star Frank Grillo providing the voiceover chores for Flag sr.

Personally, I think Gunn needs to pump the brakes when it comes to his eccentric signature needle drops some songs don't match certain scenes, but instead takes the fun and immersion out of it.
The edge lord comedy is your archetypal Gunn material but even more brazen as there are no safeguards when working on an adult oriented series. There's mild coarse language and a racy scenes to "justify “its M rating .

The Bride has her very own backstory during the second episode, while Flag gets a small plot arc.  G.I. Robot is dull and like furniture, just there.  Of course, Jimmy must keep his brother Sean Gunn in the mix when it comes to that annoying Weasel. But also voiced by Sean, is G.I. Robot who makes endless banter about “killing Nazis.”
Aside from the one or two predictable outcomes during the first two episodes, and of course the out of step needle drops, overall, this series does not dissuade me from giving it a good recommendation.
After Amazon's Batman: Caped Crusader and now Creature Commandos, it looks like DC animation is (finally) back on track!
